Current affairs

On this page, we gather up-to-date information on things and phenomena and strive to open up things that matter - as far as our NDA agreements and other trade secret obligations allow. Our activities really are no secret and we also want to give enthusiasts as much perspective as possible on what is happening behind the scenes of our collecting hobby! (* ^ v ^ *)

4.2.2024 I Our payment service provider is changing - Visma Pay will be removed, replaced by Verifone Finland.

The transition does not cause any essential changes in our service, all the most common payment methods remain unchanged. In practice, only the service provider's logo and appearance change. In addition, installment payment is again available with the Klarna payment method, and we will try to add more options later!

6.1.2024 | The unrest in the Red Sea region is causing significant problems for cargo transportation

The regional instability that started in December has caused significant problems for cargo ships, on which a significant part of our own deliveries also travel. We monitor the situation closely and inform about delays in advances whenever possible. In this situation, however, the time estimates are at best educated guesses, because some of the ships are always able to proceed, and some choose a detour. However, there is no tracking for this because the shipping company does not tell us which container is on which particular ship, so we can only wait for the container to be scanned at the EU border by customs.

However, in our opinion, the safety of the staff of the shipping companies and avoiding the escalation of the situation in the area are the most important things in the current situation, all parties will certainly do their best to ensure that traffic returns to normal soon. Thank you for your patience!

17.9.2022 - PayPal payment surcharge, why?

The merchant commissions charged by PayPal are in a class of their own compared to other service providers, we have long paid these costs on behalf of our customers who prefer the payment method. Now, with galloping inflation and the rise of other costs causing us enormous pressure to raise prices, this is unfortunately no longer possible for us.

We thought for a long time about different options, how we could solve the matter; we don't think it would be fair to transfer commission costs to all customers by increasing all prices, so we ended up setting a 2% payment method surcharge on PayPal to cover the difference in their pricing. This way, PayPal remains available and only its users pay for the service (and of course we still pay our share of PayPal's commission).

We would prefer to offer PayPal at a lower price, but unfortunately they won't budge at all when discussing pricing. We always investigate all possibilities and work hard to keep our prices affordable in these challenging times. Many thanks to all our wonderful customers - you make our operation possible! (^ᴗ^)

17.7.2022 - Increasing delays in the arrival of letter mail, as a result of "efficiency of operations", the Posti drives greetings hundreds of kilometers along Finland with our letters.

About the slowness of our letter mail, we can't do anything about it because Posti has decided to unilaterally change (in our opinion, neglect) prepaid contracts; according to the contract, the letter mail shipment should arrive within five working days at the latest, but lately we have regularly received feedback that deliveries take two, at worst three weeks. Again, this is due to Posti's "efficiency measures" which have the exact opposite effect on us customers - the procedure arouses wonder at a time when unnecessary driving by trucks should definitely be reduced even at the risk of creating some additional jobs - Yle has meritoriously even written an article about it (https://yle.fi/uutiset/3-12531237).

Thank you for your patience, we are constantly investigating alternative delivery methods.

4.12.2021 - PayPal vs Visma / Paytrail / etc.

There are a few issues with PayPal that are not mentioned on the front page of the service, but it would be definitely good for the consumer using the service to know.

Within the terms of its agreement (to which the user commits when creating an account), Paypal reserves the right to collect and deliver information about its customers and payment transactions to its "third-party" partners. Based on its domicile and thus operating under the broader legislation of the USA, PayPal also conveys to its customer (which is the seller) more information about the buyer and the transaction than any other payment method; especially when compared to payment intermediaries registered in Finland, approved as an authority by the Financial Supervisory Authority and subject to Finnish law, such as Paytrail or Finanimen partner Visma Pay. PayPal, on the other hand, takes a lot more commission on this good compared to others, and for a small business owner, this hits hard on profitability.

But what about GDPR? At this point, PayPal's EU branch, which, like many other companies, is registered - surprise surprise - is Luxembourg, because it is there that local legislation is said to be favorable to companies' tax and other needs. PayPal does not deal with the EU itself in the direction of the supervisory authorities, but is represented by another Luxembourg company, so that effective monitoring of compliance with the GDPR - or indeed of any other social obligation - is not possible under Luxembourg local law. Yes, much has been written about the subject in public, but these articles often receive little attention. On the other hand, the user has given permission for the data to be collected by agreeing to the terms of the user agreement, but few of us actually read it with thought and many updates.

However, PayPal is trustworthy and has created an impressive image of secure transactions so understandably many of our customers still want Paypal as a form of payment and a kind of guarantor; and yes, when paid with foreign shops, it defends its place against fraudsters as financial security for the buyer. The consumer only pays for the use of their privacy.

For these reasons, we have even considered giving up PayPal for domestic payments, as it actually does more harm than good for both our customers and us, but at the same time we really want to give our subscribers the freedom to choose from as many payment methods as possible without being guided or forced. Our customers are valuable to us.
